Responsible for all network activities for Fort Bend County Libraries. Network activities encompass all network connectivity and security including the system firewall, wireless network, together with user and computer accounts. Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.
Establishes and maintains Local Area Networks (LANS), Wide Area Networks (WANS) and associated Internet activities. Assists in the design and maintenance of the physical layout of LANS for the system. Maintains network security utilizing the system firewall and other mitigating techniques. Configures network servers and nodes to establish compatibility between the hardware and software managed by the network. Diagnoses network performance problems; resolves or coordinates resolution of problems of servers and all network related equipment. Provides support for network-related problems for end users. Acts as network administrator; establishes and maintains the system Domain Controllers utilizing Active Directory and Group Policies to facilitate security groups and access levels for all users. Researches technological trends and advances. Recommends hardware and software purchases. Assists in the planning and designing of cabling and equipment layout for the library system and oversees network cabling projects to ensure all aspects are correct. Assists in planning for system growth and updates due to changes in technologies, telecommunications and system needs. Configures, deploys and maintains all routers and switches for the FBCL network. Maintains and administers all wireless access points and wireless network activity. Installs, tests and maintains equipment for the library’s Internet connection; includes servers, switches and router and Internet e-mail. Carries out network troubleshooting and repair when necessary and facilitates network upgrades for improvements in hardware and software. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
Associates degree in Network Administration and/or CCNA certification with an emphasis in security, active directory, and group policies. One year job related experience. Strong technical background in networking, telecommunications and security. Strong computer skills with knowledge of several platforms; strong verbal and written communication skills; interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with technical support staff, vendors, and other employees and elected officials. Must stay informed of technological advances and ends in the computer industry; ability to complete assigned tasks within tight deadlines; ability to prioritize own work.
SALARY RANGE: Administrative/Clerical Grade 10, $1,455.20 - $1,712.80 biweekly based on qualifications
