Assists the County Engineering Department in reviewing mobility and subdivision construction for compliance with County standards and applicable construction documents; Processes acceptance of streets into the County maintenance system; And field verifies temporary and permanent traffic control devices. Participates in planning of programs, policies, or objectives for own work group and department. Manages and develops subordinate construction inspection staff in same duties.
Reviews and monitors subdivision development and construction. Conducts inspection and administration of County Mobility and Capital Projects. Reviews independent testing laboratory results. Assists the engineer of record with shop drawing and submittal reviews for construction projects. Maintains traffic control sign inventory. Represents the County Engineering Department on construction projects. Manages and develops subordinate staff in construction inspection duties including subdivision, 2007 Mobility Bond, and 2013 Mobility Bond construction projects. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
High School Diploma/GED; Seven years experience in related engineering or construction field. Good computer and mathematical skills; Good verbal and written communication and organizational skills; Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials; Ability to read and understand construction plans, topography, and geotechnical information, recognize soil classification, and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner; Ability to understand civil engineering technology. Experience managing construction inspection staff and knowledge of Texas Department of Transportation, Harris County, and City of Houston specifications. Experience managing consultant construction inspection staff and familiarity with administration of Texas Department of Transportation local let projects a plus.
SALARY RANGE: Professional/Management Grade 11, $1,860.80 - $2,189.60 biweekly based on qualifications (actual salary may be higher than range shown depending on experience and qualifications)
