  • Overview

    Ensures equipment, machinery and vehicles are in safe, workable, operating condition in accordance with established standards.  Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

    Responsibilities

    Maintains equipment on a regularly scheduled basis.  Responsible for all repairs and orders.  Orders and picks up parts as necessary.  Orders oil and fuel.  Meets with vendors.  Maintains current knowledge of updates on vehicles.  Schedules inspections.  Writes specifications for equipment purchases.  Supervises shop operations.  Instructs, trains and assists mechanics.  Assigns work, ensures standards and priorities are met and checks completed work.  Is held accountable for all equipment used and uniforms issued.  Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

    Qualifications

    High School Diploma/GED; Technical certification in different fields of mechanic training and vehicle maintenance (extensive experience may substitute for technical certification).  Four years of job related experience as a Mechanic.  Strong heavy equipment repair and evaluation skills.  Good verbal and written communications and organizational skills.  Good interpersonal skills.  Ability to deal effectively with other employees, the public and elected officials.  Ability to complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.  Working knowledge of all Road & Bridge equipment.  Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License.

     

    SALARY RANGE: Operator/Skilled Trade Grade 8, $1,522.40 - $1,791.20 biweekly based upon qualifications
