Provides professional support to the operation of the Emergency Management Department in a temporary capacity. Supports full-time Planning Coordinators by assisting with homeland security planning projects and development of plans and procedures necessary to achieve compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Assists staff with gathering, compiling, and collecting data to support compliance with multiple Homeland Security grants. Assists in ensuring County’s compliance with the National Incident Management System (NIMS), including training activities. Assists the Emergency Management Coordinator with the implementation of new technology related to public information dissemination. Provides support and assistance to local jurisdictions to improve local, regional and statewide capabilities to manage a terrorist incident involving a WMD. Assists in the evaluation and development of comprehensive emergency plans. Assists in enhancing the County’s comprehensive plans to include counter-terrorism planning for emergency management. Provides assistance in communicating and collaborating with multiple jurisdictions in the county. Participates in the planning, execution, and evaluation of local disaster exercises. Participates in obtaining, documenting, organizing, analyzing, integrating, publishing and distributing a wide variety of data, planning guidance, and operational concepts.
Bachelor’s or Associates Degree required. Preference to those with degrees in public administration, emergency response, human resources, journalism, emergency management, or a directly related field. Preference to those who have work experience in local governmental agencies. Applicants must be detail-oriented, conscientious, and able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously. Preference to those who have work experience in emergency operations centers. Experience with word-processing, spreadsheets, database management, internet programs and applications is required. Applicants must have good written and verbal communication skills, as well as good organizational and interpersonal skills. Preference to those who have experience as trainers. This position is Grant Funded and is for approximately 6 months.
SALARY: Part-Time $15.00 per hour (20 -25 hours per week) for approximately six months
