JOB SUMMARY:

Principally conduct preventative maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning and general servicing of plumbing systems at the Jail Complex.  Assists as needed with general maintenance and repair responsibilities of the Facilities Maintenance Department.  Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

Responsibilities

  • Performs preventative maintenance and repair work on all plumbing systems and fixtures in accordance with agency or department standards and code requirements. 
  • Responds to plumbing service or trouble calls, troubleshoot and provides problem resolution. 
  • Develop and follow preventative maintenance schedule for all plumbing equipment. 
  • Installs or alters new or upgraded plumbing systems or fixtures as required. 
  • Studies and prepares plans, drawings, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirement and sequence of repairs and/or installations. 
  • Maintains, tests, installs devices for the prevention of backflow, back siphonage or cross contamination. 
  • Assists in the maintenance and repair in a variety of skilled trade areas as requested. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers. 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED; technical school training or higher education in related field preferred. 
  • Three years job related experience. 
  • Knowledge of applicable plumbing codes, standards, regulations, and Texas Commission on Jail Standards. 
  • Functional computer skills.
  • Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools and drain cleaning machines. 
  • Ability to make good sound decisions. 
  • Ability to read, draw, and interpret plumbing and mechanical schematics, and one-line diagrams. 
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; good interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials. 
  • Journeyman licensed in the State of Texas preferred.  

 

SALARY RANGE: $19.71 - $24.63 hourly based on qualifications
