JOB SUMMARY:

Assists and supports the daily activities of the Commissioner and assigned duties and projects.  Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

Responsibilities

  • Attends meetings and serves on committee to ensure constituents are represented when Commissioner is unable or unavailable to attend meetings. 
  • Manages computer software to ensure that daily activities are not hindered due to inability to access a particular software or program. 
  • Reviews and consults the items that are up for approval before Commissioners Court. 
  • Provides accurate layouts of areas within precinct using GIS mapping. 
  • Translates and interprets policies and documents and provides proper verbiage regarding certain documents and legislative changes. 
  • Responds to citizen’s questions and complaints and resolves or refers to appropriate person. 
  • Responds to correspondence and telephone calls or refers to appropriate person. 
  • Ensures that the proper programs are receiving the necessary funding through the county development grant programs. 
  • Develops and edits the precinct’s newsletter and correspondence to media to inform the public or news media of changes within precinct. 
  • Monitors budget expenditures and makes or recommends adjustments when necessary. 
  • Ensures that proper equipment or expenses are maintained within the guidelines previously approved by court or during budget hearings. 
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED with one year of college in Business Administration or Public Relations.  (Two years of directly related experience may substitute of college requirement in addition to experience requirement.) 
  • Three years job related experience. 
  • Excellent computer and typing skills (40 WPM preferred) and experienced on 10-key calculator preferred.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, department and elected officials.  
  • Strong verbal and written communication and organization skills. 
  • Computer experience and technical experience in support of various software programs. 

SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience
