JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for controlling noxious weeds and to prevent erosion in the county’s right of ways and facilities and to assist to eradicate and identify the potential nuisance and disease carrying mosquitos.  Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

Responsibilities

  • Applies herbicide on a scheduled basis to control vegetation of the Fort Bend County right of ways and facilities in accordance with the Texas Department of Agriculture laws and regulations; Mixes and measures all herbicides and calibrates all spraying equipment in an accurate and safe manner to ensure compliance with the Texas Department of Agriculture.
  • Surveils adult mosquito and applies larvicide; Deploys and retrieves mosquito traps; Sends off adult mosquitos to the Texas Department of Health Bureau Lab; Applies larvicide on a scheduled basis to control mosquito population in accordance to the Texas Department of Agriculture.
  • Applies insecticides by driving a truck mounted Ultra Law Volume spray equipment through assigned areas at night and sometimes into the morning. Monitors environmental and mechanical conditions during insecticidal applications to ensure accurate delivery of the product.
  • Operations heavy and light duty equipment in the construction or repair of roads and bridges; Hauls materials and equipment to and from jobsite; Clears debris from ditches, culverts and road surfaces.
  • Responsible for scheduled maintenance of herbicide trucks and ULV truck fleet; Performs shop duties.
  • Assists with training of seasonal employees working in the division.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 1-year work related experience.
  • Good interpersonal skills; ability to deal effectively with other employees and the public.
  • Must be able to follow instructions and complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License; Good driving skills.
  • Certified Pesticide Applicator License (to be obtained within 4 months of employment).

 

SALARY RANGE: $17.60 - $22.00 hourly based on qualifications

CLOSING DATE: Upon filling position
