JOB SUMMARY:

The Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a Certified Digital Forensics Examiner to helm the District Attorney’s Digital Forensics Lab affiliated with the United States Secret Service Electronic Crimes Task Force (ECTF).  This new position will serve as the digital evidence expert and will provide analysis of evidence to strengthen investigations and prosecutions.  Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department.

The Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office leads over 20 state and local law enforcement agencies to prosecute criminal activity in Fort Bend County and possesses one of only two labs in the county.  Duties of the Examiner will include, but not be limited to:

• Conducting forensic examinations of digital and multimedia evidence through the application of scientific practices for the recognition, collection, analysis, and interpretation of digital evidence for criminal investigations and civil or regulatory purposes.
• Participating in investigations and witness interviews with DA staff and outside agencies to gain a detailed understanding of the case and the evidence, and to obtain additional relevant technical information.
• Providing expert witness testimony; produces illustrative exhibits for federal, state, and local judicial proceedings sufficient to explain interpretations and conclusions from forensic examinations of the evidence and scientific data to a non-expert audience.
• Delivering training to local law enforcement in digital forensic laboratory services, evidence collection, crime scene processing, and field examination.
• Liaising with federal, state, and local agencies on technical developments, forensic methods, and investigative problems of common interest to ensure the Office and local agencies efficiently adapt to changes in rapidly evolving technology.
• Maintaining competency through constant training and certification.
• Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

• Applicants must possess an Intermediate TCOLE license, 5 years of law enforcement experience and a firearms certification. 
• The applicant should also be a graduate of United States Secret Service training to include certifications in Basic Computer Evidence Recovery Training (BCERT), Mobile Device Examiner (MDE), Advanced Forensics Training (AFT), and/or equivalent training/certification programs. 
• The applicant must have a working knowledge of legal terminology, legal office practices and legal research, writing and drafting skills to include authoring of search and arrest warrants relating to cyber/digital investigations. 
• Applicants must be capable of examining digital devices containing child exploitation evidence and homicide evidence, and be able to identify evidence of criminal activity upon review of digital evidence. 
• Applicants must be proficient in X-Ways Forensics, Cellebrite, Magnet AXIOM, Forensics Explorer, Autopsy and other Digital Forensics Toolsets. 
• Preferred Qualifications:
• Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. 
• Experience as a criminal investigator with experience as lead case agent in criminal investigations, including experience recognizing sufficiency of evidence to constitute probable cause and experience composing search and arrest warrants. 
• Vendor certifications such as Access Data, Cellebrite, Forensics Explorer, or Magnet Forensics tools. 

SALARY RANGE: Starting salary range begins at $76,814+ annually, based on qualifications and experience, with a great benefits package.  Offers subject to an application/interview process, background check, and drug test.  Not all applicants will be interviewed.
